Divisions

NO Dancers Meeting! There will be a MANDATORY roll call prior to each contest. ANY COMPETITOR ABSENT FROM ROLL CALL WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO DANCE. THERE WILL BE NO EXCEPTIONS.

There is no maximum limit to entries to any division with the exception of pro-am strictly swing. Deadlines for all divisions are as listed in the schedule.

If there are fewer than three (3) entries in any division, ACC reserves the right to combine or cancel that division. ACC also reserves the right to have any and all lead/follow categories run in a heat format in lieu of prelims or spotlight format for time.

Rules

2014 RULES
There will be NO competitors dancers meeting this year.
All competitors must attend the mandatory roll call before their division. No proxies allowed.

GENERAL:

1. The Americas' Classic Championships is open to all eligible contestants.

2. All categories are traditional male / female, lead / follow couples, with the exception of the Teams Division.

3.  AGE Requirement:   Competitors must be at least 18 years old to compete in the NASDE Divisions.

4. AGE Sensitive Divisions: NO exceptions.
a. Masters - both partners must be age 50 or older
c. Junior Divisions - Age: 6-17 (Ref YASDA Rules)

5. Dancers may not compete at different levels of competition over the weekend, excluding Jack & Jill.

6. Costumes are acceptable in all categories except Strictly Swing, ProAms and Jack & Jills.

7. This is a Swing Dance Competition and all recognized swing styles are allowed, including Whip, Push, West Coast Swing, Shag, Lindy Hop, Imperial, Swingout, Jitterbug, Steppers and others.

8. Dancers may not dance with the same partner in more than one Swing division.  An individual is not permitted to dance twice within the same division.  Exception; the ProAm divisions.

9. Americas’ Classic Championships will provide music for the Jack & Jill, Strictly Swing and Pro-Am Divisions.  Music for all other divisions must be provided by the contestant at the mandatory dancers meeting.

10. Petitions for Reclassification:
It is the Organizer’s goal to encourage all competitors to assign themselves to a fair and appropriate classification using the honor system. In the event that a competitor feels uncomfortable with their classification, they may petition for reclassification on their entry form by providing a brief, written explanation of the reason(s) for their request. Competitors must submit such petitions at the contest registration desk  30  MINUTES PRIOR to the earliest registration deadline for the competition(s) in question. The Chief Judge will review petitions for reclassification, and contestants will be notified as quickly as possible of the outcome. The decision of the Chief Judge is final.

11. Music Time Limitations: All routine divisions, excluding Teams, have a music time limitation of no less than 2 minutes and no more than 3 minutes.

12. Waiver Form: ALL dancers must sign a Waiver form. This is done at Registration when you purchase your weekend ticket. All contestants under the age of eighteen (18) must have a parent or guardian sign any required forms.

13. Qualification for Junior Dancers (YASDA)
This division is for Competitors 17 years of age or younger. You may be required to provide proof of age at time of registration.

14. Qualification for Novice Dancers:
You must have never danced in a Non-Pro, Intermediate, Open or higher Class category, in Classic, Showcase, Strictly Swing/Just Dance style or equivalent categories, or as a Pro in a Pro-Am, in any style of dance. This division is not open to all levels.

15. Qualification for Intermediate Dancers:
You must have never danced in Open or higher Class category, in Classic, Showcase, Strictly Swing/Just Dance style or equivalent categories, or as a Pro in a Pro-Am, in any style of dance. This division is not open to all levels.

16. Qualification for Rising Star:
All contestants may dance in this Class level except those who qualify as Professional Class dancers.  Dancers must not have placed top 3 in NASDE competitions in Classic, Showcase, Strictly Swing or any equivalent categories.  This division is not open to all levels.

17. Qualification for All Star/Advanced Dancers:
All contestants may dance in this Class level except those who qualify as Professional Class dancers. Dancers must not have placed top 3 in a national competition in Classic, Showcase, Strictly Swing/Just Dance style or any equivalent categories. This division is not open to all levels.

18. Qualification for Professional /Champion Dancers:
This division is intended for top national WCS Competitors.  You may compete in this division if the following apply:

1) You already compete at this level and have finished in the top 5, in the past 5 years; or
2) You have placed in the top 3 in NASDE Classic or Showcase divisions in the past 5 years; or
3) If you have taught a workshop as an invited Instructor at Americas Classic, in the past 5 years.

19. Definition of a LIFT:
That point when both feet are off the ground, and weight is not self supported.

20. Definition of a DROP:
The point at which the head goes below your partner’s waist and weight is not self supported.

21.  Definition of an AERIAL.
The point at which one partner is off the ground due to the other partner and not maintaining contact with their partner.

22. ACC uses WSDC point registry to determine eligibility for each J&J division.
Americas’ Classic Championships also reserves the right to have any and all lead/follow categories run in a heated format in lieu of prelims or spotlight format for time restraints.

All competitors are required to purchase a weekend ticket.

Junior Division (Routines)
(YASDA)
1. See General Rules #4 for age requirements.
This is a Swing category and dance content must be 60% that style.
2 Music Time Limitations: No less than 2 minutes and no more than 3 minutes.
3. Judging and time of routines begin with first choreographed movement with or without music.
4. Lift, aerials and drops are allowed, but not required.
5. Costumes are required.

Mixed Pro-Am: (Routines) (One Routine Per Pro)
1. ONLY Novice & Intermediate Level dancers qualify to dance as Ams in this Division.
2. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category. (See General Rules)
3. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 80% that style.
4. There are no Lifts, Drops or Aerials allowed.
5. Music Time Limitations: No less than 2 minutes and no more than 3 minutes.
6. Costumes are required.

Masters: (Routines) (MASTERS TOUR)
1. See General Rule #4 for Age requirements.
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 60% that style.
3. Lifts, drops and aerials are allowed but not required.
4. Music Time Limitations: No less than 2 minutes
and no more than 3 minutes.
5. Costumes required.
6. There are no other restrictions.

Teams:
1. Each team must have a minimum of three couples.
2. There is a limit of 10 team entries.
3. Each Team must dance at least 2-1/2 minutes of Swing.
4. Each team must dance a minimum of 3 minutes.  Each team is allotted a maximum
of 5 minutes from the time it is introduced until it must be totally off the dance floor.
5.  Costumes are required.

Rising Star (Routines)
1. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category. (See General Rules)
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 60% that style.
3.  Music Time Limitations: No less than 2 minutes and no more than 3 minutes.
4. Judging and time of routines begin with first choreographed movement with or without music.
5.  Lifts, drops, aerials are allowed, but not required.
6. Costumes are required.

Classic: (Per NASDE Rules)
1. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category.

Showcase: (Per NASDE Rules)
1.  Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category.

Pro-Ams: Male & Female Strictly Swing (Novice & Intermediate Level)
1. The Pro partner may dance with up to five (5) different Am partners.
2. The  Novice partner must not qualify as an Intermediate, Advanced level dancer.
3. The Intermediate partner must not qualify as an Advanced level dancer.
4. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 90% that style.
5. No lifts, drops or aerials are allowed.
6. This is a lead/follow category and no choreographed routines are allowed.
7. Couples will dance approximately two (2) minutes to music provided by Americas’ Classic Championships.  The music will be selected at random and the couples will  be given no prior music information. 
8. No Costumes Allowed.

Novice Strictly Swing:
1. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category. (See General Rules)
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 90% that style. It is a lead/follow category and no choreographed routines are allowed.
3. No lifts, drops or aerials and no planned entrances or exits allowed.
4. Couples will dance approximately two (2) minutes to music provided by Americas’ Classic Championships.  The music will be selected at random and couples will be given no prior music information.
5. No Costumes Allowed. 

Intermediate Strictly Swing:
1. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category. (See General Rules)
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 90% that style.
3. This is a lead/follow category and no choreographed routines are allowed.
4. No lifts, drops or aerials and no planned entrances or exits allowed.
5. Couples will dance approximately two (2) minutes to music provided by Americas’ Classic Championships. The music will be selected at random and the couples will be given no prior music information.
6. No Costumes Allowed.

Masters Strictly Swing:
1. Both partners must be at least 50 years young at the time of the contest.
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 90% that style.
3. This is a lead/follow category and no choreographed routines are allowed.
4. No lifts, drops or aerials and no planned entrances or exits allowed.
5. Couples will dance approximately two (2) minutes to music provided by Americas’ Classic Championships.  Music will be selected at random and the couples will be given no prior music information.
6. No Costumes Allowed.

Advanced Strictly Swing:  
1. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category. (See General Rules)
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 90% that style.3. This is a lead/follow category and no choreographed routines are allowed.
4. No lifts, drops or aerials and no planned entrances or exits allowed.
5. Couples will dance approximately two (2) minutes to music provided by Americas’Classic Championships. Music will be selected at random and the couples will be given no prior music information.

Pro/ Champions Strictly Swing (NASDE):
1. Any dancer that qualifies may enter this category. (See General Rules)
2. This is a Swing category and dance content must be 90% that style.
3. This is a lead/follow category and no choreographed routines are allowed.
4. No planned entrances or exits are allowed.
5. Couples will dance approximately two (2) minutes to music provided by Americas’Classic Championships. Music will be selected at random and the couples will be given no prior music information.
6. Costumes are not allowed.

Jack & Jills:
ACC uses WSDC point registry to determine eligibility for each division.

Jack & Jill entry fee per individual is = $16.00

Juniors Jack & Jill:
1. Competitors must be 17 years of age or younger.
2. You must sign up in person. No proxies.

Novice Jack & Jill:
1. Anyone that qualifies may enter this contest.
2. You must sign up in person. No proxies.

Intermediate Jack & Jill:
1. Anyone that qualifies may enter this contest.
2. You must sign up in person. No proxies.

Masters Jack & Jill:
1. You must be at least 50 years young at the time of the contest
2. You must sign up in person. No proxies.

All Star/Advanced Jack & Jill (NASDE):
1. Anyone that qualifies may enter this contest.
2. You must sign up in person. No proxies 

Pro/Champions Jack & Jill (NASDE):
1. Anyone that qualifies may enter this contest.  (See General Rules)
2. You must sign up in person. No proxies. 

 

AANCE

Purpose: The Americas Amateur National Championship Events promotes and preserves the art of West Coast Swing Dancing and its many related regional styles.

Mission: To offer a National Competition Circuit for all styles of Swing for Novice and Intermediate Swing level dancers only.

The Americas Amateur National Championship Events is the only Amateur Novice level Swing dance circuit in the country.
